Telisa Relachik studied to be a xenoarchaeologist at a time when humans had found alien artifacts but hadn't encountered live aliens. After a harrowing brush with a real Trilisk on Chigran Callnir Four, the PIT team, fresh with four new members, heads out on a new type of expedition hunting a live Trilisk.

Telisa can’t imagine a more deadly creature to pursue, but she’s determined to stop the representative of an elder race she’s come to see as a threat to Earth, even an Earth run by her enemies.

The Trilisk Hunt is the fourth book in the PIT series.

The Trilisk Hunt Parker Interstellar Travels Book 4 eBook Michael McCloskey

There is nothing fancy about the fourth entry in the Trilisk series, and that is what makes the book an enjoyable read. If you enjoyed the previous books, you should enjoy this book. It has a similar flow, starting out with interviews and filled with unique aliens that communicate in extraordinary ways and challenging battles, as well as all the favorite characters from the previous books. Of course, if you haven't read The Trilisk Ruins (Parker Interstellar Travels #1) you should read that first. (You might want to read Insidious (Synchronicity Trilogy, Book 1) from the same author instead, though).

Nonetheless, if you liked the other Trilisk books, you should certainly read this one too. There is a small lull after the first few chapters, but it picks up pretty nicely and becomes quite exciting near the end.

The Trilisk Hunt Parker Interstellar Travels Book 4 eBook Michael McCloskey Reviews

The further I delve into this story the more it gripes me. I have to recommend this series to all sci-fi readers.
I can't give this series enough praise. I've read a fair amount of science fiction and watched a lot of it as well. But, this series really has me hooked.
I'd love to see this as a television show or a movie. Preferably a tv show though.
More of the same in this series. These books are not page turners, but they move along well enough to keep your attention. I'm still able to get my work done, and they are entertaining. There is an overarching theme, of strange environments, with enough alien tech, to border on magic, yet it comes down to mano-o-mano fights, and now we have back from the dead, and of course the thin line between the virtual "training" narrative and the "real" world narrative. And, yes I did buy the next in the series.
I had a few problems with this book. First though if you liked the rest of the series this one is definitely worth reading.

However their inconsistent use of the pillar tech to back themselves up when the going got rough led to the loss of several key figures. Unnecessary losses as far as I'm concerned. Also this story was a little too close to same old same old. We didn't learn significantly more, like I thought we should have, and everything we did was front loaded.

I would say that it just isn't quite growing into the grand sweep that was promised in the earlier books. Lots of hints and the payouts we do get seem a bit robbed by the ease of acquisition.

That said the book was okay and if you liked the earlier books read this one.

The Deposed King
The author continues to keep this space opera fresh and exciting. He has added new characters and removed others. The environment in which they operate grows. And he does all of this while providing depth a to the characters and detail to the environment. Rarely do I read more than three volumes in any saga, but I can't wait to see where he takes us next.
I bought the first three P.I.T. novels when there was a "special", and they were good enough to persuade me to get the fourth, but I found it to be a letdown for several reasons. One is the flood of new characters. A couple of them could hold my interest, but a couple of others were not distinct enough; I kept thinking, wait, who is this, now? And because of their number, none of them have time to develop in any satisfying way or resolve their particular arcs. And, having all those extra people around means much less time on stage for the characters we know well and care about, Telisa, Magnus, Cilreth and Shiny. My broad impression was that the narrative flow seemed formless, hasty, disjointed. Telisa gains a pyrrhic victory by use of the "breaker claw" -- and you have to go back to the prior volume and do a search to find out what that was. At the end there is a whole tuft of loose ends not tied off, conflicts unresolved.

There are some fun bits of imagination in this book. Mccloskey points to one of the unexpected features of being cloned (hint John Varley covered it first in "The Phantom of Kansas", 1976). The Blackvine race is intriguing; it will be interesting to see if McCloskey can find a way to make such a bunch of recluses useful in the future.

But there's a big problem the closing pages make it absolutely clear that Earth's government is under secret Trilisk control, and everyone commits themselves to freeing it. Back to Earth? Is that where we want Talisa to go? More, that would seem to be in conflict with what the author has written about future directions in a comment to another review.
I have really enjoyed reading all of Michael McCloskey's, Parker Interstellar Travels, series. His depiction of the various aliens encountered are a wonderful departure from the ubiquitous humans with a rubber forehead aliens. McCloskey's aliens have non-human means of perception and communication, non-human patterns of thinking and motivations.

I really enjoyed the addition of the new characters. However, I felt the plot petered out about mid-way through, why continue the hunt when it was clear it would be almost impossible to win, it seemed out of character, especially for Mangus. I also felt character development was somewhat supplanted by long, albeit well written, combat action descriptions. Further, Trilisk Hunt was shorter than the previous installments and it felt like it ended before it could come to a better climax.

I really enjoyed the book, however, I am only giving the book four stars; I did not find it as satisfying as the last three. Although, I feel this is only because the author set the bar so high with the prior books, anything less would be a bit of a let down.

I will definitely be there for the next installment I just feel Trilisk Hunt needed a bit more meat.
